About

I’ve come a long way from my first sip of tecate. That momentary lapse in parental judgement led me to believe I hated beer for more than a decade, until I visited Germany at the proper drinking age of 18. I didn’t learn to speak German and it didn’t even matter; from that moment, I was a beer drinker.

It occurred to me that many of us, with thin and bitter memories of macro-produced lager, had no idea how beer could taste. With food and beverage industries driven by the single concept of more, we are conditioned to settle for less. I thought my palate might be limited to the light yeasty strain of Bavarian Hefeweizen, then I took a dare from West Coast IPA. I considered being addicted to carbonation, as if beer was spiked soda for adults. Then I had the pleasure of real ale from the cask and realized it ain’t about the bubbles. And if college taught me nothing else (which it didn’t), it’s that beer is an experience far beyond getting drunk.

To this day, there is nothing I enjoy more than ale or lager you can ‘chew’ on. That’s Metal™

Nice blog. I have Metal oozing from my pores now.

You’ll of course need to continue your research in Deutschland, where by law only 4 ingredients are allowed in beer. But in the meantime, here’s a link to innovation brews a little closer to home. http://goo.gl/cCgKA8
